This week I decided to focus on regenerative medicine. I have been hearing about the positive experiences from patients and felt it would be a great topic to share and inform those that don’t know much about the process or their options.
The goal of regenerative medicine is to restore the function of diseased or damaged tissues by using a variety of approaches. From cell-based therapies through tissue engineering to developing new medical devices. Regenerative medicine offers potentially huge benefits.
At Foot and Ankle Surgical Associates we have had a long history of utilization of regenerative medical technologies. For the last seven years we’ve been involved in this. Regenerative medicine is the idea of using methods to stimulate the body’s natural healing process by augmenting it with a variety measures. More recently we’ve been expanding this especially with healthcare costs being so expensive we’re trying to speed up healing and reduce overall out of pocket cost whether that be time off work etc.
Topaz Coblation therapy causes micro injuries to a chronic condition these micro injuries caused acute response that stimulates the Genesis and recruiting of growth factors to expedite healing. This procedure is minimally invasive and is used to treat chronic achilles tendonitis and chronic plantar fasciitis. A topaz procedure is intended for patients who have not received satisfactory symptom relief from more conservative treatments, such as orthotics, physical therapy, stretching, massage or injections.
Skin graft material specifically ones from the amniotic placenta provide a scaffolding of growth factors that helps chronic wounds such as diabetic ulcers to heal more quickly in someone who is elderly and has less available growth factors.
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is another method where we draw someone’s on blood spend it down in a centrifuge and extract off the Buffy coat. This Buffy coat contains stem cells growth factors and other such products that when injected into the nonhealing area can speed up the body’s natural process.
There are bone healing stimulators that speed up the cellular process by which a bone grows together naturally. There’s an electromagnetic method and an ultrasonic method both can reduce the risk of additional surgery in a non-healing bone.
All of these methods use the body’s natural healing abilities. These methods and technologies simply boost substantially what our bodies are designed to do. Why not speed up your healing today.
